Do insurance companies report accidents to DMV?

Do insurance companies report accidents to DMV?
The short answer is no.  Insurance companies do not report accident to the DVM, however this does not mean that DMV will not be made aware if you are involved in an accident.  If there is a police report for the accident, DMV will find out about it.  Insurance companies do not know about your accident until you file the claim.  However your insurance company does exchange information with DMV when it relates to SR-22 filing.  Every insurance policy requires the insured to file a claim for every accident, no matter how small.  Unfortunately many accidents are not reported because individuals chose to try and settle the damages without getting the insurance companies involved.  This is a bad decision.  Your insurance company could deny future claims resulting from an accident you didn't report (read the fine print).
